Flu
season is upon us. The symptoms can be mild or severe and can
come on suddenly. Be aware of your body and be prepared. The
common symptoms of the flu include:
- Fever
- Headache
- Muscle aches
- Chills
- Extreme tiredness
- Dry cough
- Runny nose may also occur but is more common in children
than adults
- Stomach symptoms, such as nausea, vomiting,
and diarrhea, may also occur but are more common in children
than adults
If you have any of these symptoms, make an appointment with
your primary care doctor immediately. Simple ways
to prevent
the flu:
- Get a flu vaccine.
- Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough
or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after
you cough or sneeze.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread this
way.
- Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
- If you are sick with flu-like illness, the Center for Disease
Control recommends you stay home for at least 24 hours after
your fever is gone except to get medical care or for other
necessities. (Your fever should be gone without the use of
a fever-reducing medicine.)
- While sick, limit contact with others to keep from infecting
them.

Parkland
is raising funds to replace the current hospital, built in
1954, with a new state-of-the-art facility. The $150 million "I
Stand for Parkland" capital campaign will contribute to
the $1.27 billion project in an unprecedented public-private
partnership.
The campaign kicked off with two exceptional gifts - $50 million
from the Harold Simmons Foundation and $25 million from the
Rees-Jones Foundation. These, plus $10 million more from people
across North Texas, put the campaign more than halfway to our
goal. You, too, can stand for Parkland and contribute to a
healthier Dallas; click
